Paying Attention is the Healer’s Way
Last month was asking us to expand our awareness for magic in the mundane and I hope most of us came away realising or knowing that our awareness for these things can only come from paying attention. We keep hearing now how our attention is currency and that’s true. It’s being commodified much like everything else and so here we are having to pool and scrape together so much of our energy back to our own moments in our own lives and I’m feeling that more and more it is a crucial, perilous thing.
This month of October is asking us to engage in our relationships (with self, others, places and roles) with compassionate discernment and I would highly recommend that how we pay attention is one of those things. For example…
Pay attention to the little moments as much as (or more than) the big ones.
Pay attention to the synchronicities and improbabilities.
Pay attention to the flickers at the edges of our visions and the gut knowings to try a new route or new way.
Pay attention to the songs you can’t get out of your head or artwork that draws your eye back over and over.
Pay attention to how folk make you feel when you are in their force fields; to how your energies mix and mingle and how yours settles after you move away from them.
Pay attention to when you feel frazzled and discombobulated or when you feel calm and regulated.
Pay attention to the small moments that signify the slipping back of a veil and where you are being asked to consider things in a new way.
Pay attention where you choose an old way over a better for you way (or the other way around).
Pay attention to how you speak to yourself and the names you call yourself (and when and why).
Pay attention when your inner voice says ‘that could never be me’.
Pay attention to the lack of balance or harmony in a place or relationship.
Pay attention to how we are pulled into numbing bahviours and where we spend an inordinate amount of our attention that isn’t supportive (our phones, social media, a person or place, a hobby or obsession, a job or role, etc)
Pay attention to where we are clinging so desperately to something that is ready to be released.
Paying attention is free for us and it’s a freedom we can cherish and protect. It’s where our moments for love, healing, joy and creation live though it doesn’t necessarily mean making a choice or a change right in that moment. It’s observing. It’s hard not to eventually make the changes we want after we see what is; after we notice things from paying attention. It’s where we start.
