Aries Season Tarot Council
When Tarot cards come up together, they interact to tell a very specific story.
The story of Aries shares about a real opportunity to connect with the fiery nature of this season (within a very watery backdrop) and means that it’s crucial to trust our emotional realms for balance and repair. This is alchemy between Fire and Water, our capacity and our emotions. It can be a very potent time for magic making, change making and creation.
I wanted to share little more about these cards and how the combination of them interacting can support us in a pretty strange, liminal landscape.
The Emperor (4) is lead by Aries and has a bigger connection to The Tower through Mars (the ruling planet of Aries), a numerological link to Death (13) and an elemental and energetic link to the Queen of Wands and the King of Cups.
What we are being invited into with the Emperor is considering how we take up space in our own lives; of expanding out from a very rooted place thanks to our internal work with the Empress. We are being asked to consider how we show up more embodied around our values and how we centre our energetic needs best. We are learning to recognise that we can’t be the best supports or play our important roles well if we aren’t tending to our needs with respect to our pace and capacities. We don’t live in a world that promotes ‘me first’ in terms of our own care and consideration, especially when we are in marginalised bodies. It’s selfish to think ‘me first’ but it’s not a massive alarm bell when we give everything of ourselves to everything and everyone else. That’s wild to me now though I was in that space for a very long time.
We may not be able to live our lives with fully full cups all the time (hello work and caregiving and responsibilities and the horrors and…) but we can also consider shifting our thoughts and beliefs around the value we hold for ourselves in our own lives. Our lives! Like…ours. Our own. I can’t express that point enough.
When we have been trained from a young age to consider other people’s needs, wants, desires and comforts over our own this is a big ask and so working with the Emperor in this way is hugely empowering. It’s a reclamation. Let’s take up more of our space in our own lives. Let’s consider our needs (wants, desires, comforts) first or at least as well as (‘as well as’ is the gateway drug to ‘me first’ after all).
I don’t feel I should have to say this but I will. ‘Me First’ doesn’t me ‘fuck the rest of you’. It means considering how we work, rest, recover, contribute, play, make magic, create, etc as our first port of call so that we can show up so much more as ourselves. That’s a powerful way to move through the world. When we consider ourselves first we start to drop the should, labels and expectations placed on us and that means we will have more room to be in the roles that are required and needed of us.
Don’t worry if this feels a bit big just now. It’s a start to just consider some things. The Tower and Death are going to reveal something or somethings that are no longer aligned or working for us. Things that need to be torn down or released so that we can move forward with what are aligned and what does work for us. Is there a structure in your life that you have been propping up for some time? Is there a structure that is crumbling around you? That can feel scary. But all things come to their own end at some point and forcing along with things that aren’t working are massive energy killers. This month is a great one for observing and maybe doing an audit for yourself around what needs pulling down, what needs mending and what needs tending.
The Queen of Wands (Water/Fire) is our Hearth Witch. They are the tenders of our inner flame. They take care of things at home in the most magical of ways so that we can move through our lives feeling more capable. We can lean into the embodiment of this energy by seeing how we can ritualise our boring (but necessary) self care, creating more whimsy in our everyday lives and identifying and really embracing our our spiritually fulfilling practices. This one makes magic for the sole purpose of enriching their own life. So that they can feed that magic and infuse into their being. So that they can move out in the bigger world better able to honour their pace and capacity. It’s a really powerful energy to connect with.
The King of Wands (Fire/Water) is our embodied and emotionally intelligent caretaker (thank you Shadi for the EI link!). All kings embody the internal work of the Queens so this makes a lot of sense that the work we do with the Queen of Cups (retreat, caretaking of self, intuitive healing) gets to come with us as we step into the role of the King. We are reminded to move through our life being really aware of our needs and modelling that for others. We know when to check in and when to move out. We know what our intuition feels like and we know to trust it fully.
When you connect these energies together it tells a story of going in to go out. It reminds us that when we can put ourselves first it only allow us to contribute more fully to a more fair world. As Justina Blakeney says, ‘What’s good for me is good for the realm!’. That is some hugely sovereign shit and everything about this season is about being more sovereign for ourselves, in our own lives.
Just a wee note that I am opening up a few spaces for folks who would prefer to have a Year Ahead reading done now for this Energetic and Astrological New Year. Click below to check it out.
